1952 South American Championships in Athletics

The XVII. Athletics South America Championships were held until May 11, 1952 in Buenos Aires from 3rd. After the championships had always been held in odd-numbered years since 1927, the organizers changed the rhythm now, to avoid the 1951 inaugural Pan American Games. This found the South Championships in 1920 and 1924 for the third time in the same year as the Olympic Games were held. The most successful competitor was the Argentinean sprinter Gerardo Bönnhoff with two first and two second places. For women, the two Argentines Gladys Erbetta and Ingeborg Mello each won two titles.

From 1924 to 1949 as part of the South Championships, a competition was held in the Cross Country Men. This was put together with the 3000 -meter run in 1952 from the program. For the first time the 3000 -meter steeplechase on the program.
