(1956 ) Artek is a main belt asteroid of the outer, which was discovered by Soviet astronomer Lyudmila Chernykh on October 8, 1969 at the Crimean Observatory in Nautschnyj (IAU code 095).

The asteroid is part of the Themis family, a group of asteroids, which was named after ( 24) Themis. The timeless ( nichtoskulierenden ) orbital elements of ( 1956) Artek are almost identical to those of the smaller, if we start from the absolute brightness of 14.8 compared with 12.0, asteroids ( 126 561 ) in 2002 CF105.

(1956 ) was named after the Artek pioneer camp Artek All-Union on 30 June 1977. Artek pioneer camp was the main pioneer organization Vladimir Ilyich Lenin in the Soviet Union. It is located in the city Gurzuf on the Crimean peninsula in Ukraine today.
