1963 South American Championships in Athletics
The XXII. Athletics South America Championships were held from June 29 to July 7, 1963 in Cali instead. The most successful competitor was the Venezuelan Mehrkämpfer Héctor Thomas, who also won the competition in the long jump and javelin in addition to the victory in the decathlon. For women, the Brazilian Erica da Silva also won three gold medals.
So far, the South America Championship had always been held in April or May. Since the end of April 1963, the Pan American Games were held, the appointment of the South Championships was the first time in June and July.

The team standings in the women won the Brazilians with 110 points, ahead of Argentina's team with 93 points and the Colombians with 18 points. Behind me Venezuela received 15 points ten points Chile, Peru and Uruguay 6 points 2 points. As the two men, there was no point for the women of Ecuador.
