1979–80 DDR-Oberliga

The 1979/80 season was the 32nd edition of the East German football championship. The Berliner FC Dynamo defended with a 1-0 victory on the final day against SG Dynamo Dresden his title from last year and won the second championship.

Course of the season

The title fight was a duel between the two teams from Dynamo Dresden and Berlin. Dresden was 23 game days satisfied ( from 1 to 18 and from 21 to 25 Matchday) at the top and had to end up with the second place. On the final day of the BFC with a 1-0 home win over Dresden managed to successfully defend the title.

In the squares of FC Carl Zeiss Jena and 1.FC Magdeburg followed by ten or twelve points behind the leading duo. Promoted FC Vorwärts Frankfurt (Oder) was also thanks to the third best away record in an excellent fifth place, ahead of Locomotive Leipzig.

The HFC, the ( 3rd) played a good first round, could not maintain this level and finished at the end of the seventh rank. Then followed those teams that had to do with the descent. On 22 Round the BSG Sachsenring Zwickau Make parted just four points from the bottom Chemie Leipzig. Zwickau escaped practically one match later with a home win over Jena. The 25th Round then brought the BSG Stahl Riesa the final relegation and for FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt (Last of the first round ), FC Karl- Marx-Stadt and bismuth Aue a comfortable starting position for the final day. Union had after the 0:6 defeat against the BFC not just two points behind, but also the significantly worst goal difference. Dresden sealed by a home win over relegation chemistry of Leutzscher. These were followed then the first FC Union Berlin by a defeat in Frankfurt. After 1969 and 1973, the Iron had to play the course in the East German league for the third time.
