1995–96 Regionalliga
The season 1995 /96 Regional League was the second season of the Regional as the third- highest division in German football. It was played in four regional scales. In the seasons North, Northeast and South played 18 teams. In the relay West / Southwest 19 clubs were active.
The master of the squadrons west / southwest and south as well as the runner-up of the West / Southwest Group rose directly on to the 2nd Bundesliga. The master of the squadrons North and Northeast were playing in a relegation from another climber.

Mode
It was played - as in the pre-season - in seasons north, northeast, west / southwest and south. Except for the Season West / Southwest, played in 19 teams, played in every season of 18 teams. In contrast to the pre-season promotion scheme has been amended since the division of the seasons does not reflect the number of teams in the regional areas. Starting this season, the winner of the North and the Northeast season wore two playoffs to move up, while in the other two seasons rises next to the Season winner and the runner-up in the exchange between the South Season and the West / Southwest Season. This season, the West / Southwest squadron had two climbing courses.
This also changed the qualification mode for the German Amateur Championship. It took no longer the four runners-up, but instead, the loser of the rise of games between the winners of the North and the Northeast season, the third-place finisher of the West / Southwest Season and the second and third place winner of the South Season.
In the play-offs for promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga to Tennis Borussia Berlin and VfB Oldenburg stood against. The first leg ended in Berlin at 1:1, the return match in Oldenburg 2-1 after extra time. VfB Oldenburg was thus adopted as a climber.

Relegation to the 2nd Bundesliga
In the since the introduction of Regional inaugural Relegation the two masters of the squadrons North and Northeast came together in two games to determine the fourth promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga. The first leg ended 1-1 in Berlin, in the second leg victory Oldenburg 2-1 in extra time and rose to the 2nd Bundesliga.
