2002 UEFA European Under-21 Championship

The 16 U -21 Football Championship was won by the Czech Republic. It was the second victory for the Czech Republic. Defending champion Italy was eliminated in the semifinals. Germany failed to qualify. The final round was held in the period from 16 to 28 May 2002 in Switzerland, where the visitors penetrated to the semifinals.

Qualification

Mode

All registered teams were divided into nine groups. The group winners and the best runners- seven point reached the knockout stages. There, the eight participants were determined on the final round in the return game.

The eight finalists are divided into two groups of four teams each. Within the groups, each team plays once against every other team. The group winners and runners reach the semifinals. The semi-final winners eventually play in the final of the European Champion.
