2004 Deutschland Tour

The 6th Tour of Germany was held to 6 June 2004 of 31 May. It led from Karlsruhe to Leipzig 1095.7 km with a target arrival in St. Anton am Arlberg and a drive through the Czech Bohemia. There were 158 riders from 16 professional teams on the grid, of which 108 reached the target.

Due to a change in the leader's jersey sponsor was no longer white, but as early as 1939 yellow again. In addition, since the reinstatement of the tour started for the first time with an individual time trial over 23.7 kilometers.

Course

The start of the tour decided Michael Rich and Uwe Peschel before Jan Ullrich for themselves. Among the first ten riders there were seven German. Also on the second stage, the Tom Boonen won the sprint, Rich kept the yellow jersey. In the third stage, which led through the Alps and ended in St. Anton, Patrik Sinkewitz took over the leader's jersey after he had in common with Francisco Mancebo reached the finish line and won the sprint. It was followed by two flat stages that could Sébastien Hinault and Allan Davis win. Mancebo won but then the Queen's stage through the hills to Oberwiesenthal. Since Sinkewitz crossed the finish line together with Mancebo, his overall lead was not threatened. Jens Voigt, who finished with the duo, took second place in the standings, while Ullrich slid off the podium. The final stage won again Boonen.
