2006 Women's Hockey World Cup

The 11th Field Hockey Women's World Cup was held in Madrid from 27 September to 8 October 2006. The games were held on the premises of the Club de Campo. The official name of the tournament was Samsung World Cup Women. There were twelve teams initially into two groups and then in placing matches against each other. A total of 42 matches have been completed.

World Champion was the sixth time the Netherlands that could prevail in the final with a 3-1 win against Australia.

Germany was represented by the German national women's hockey.

Venue

The only venue for the field hockey Women's World Cup is the club premises of the Club de Campo in Madrid, Spain. In the complex there are two artificial turf playing fields, including a field with stands for spectators.

Qualification

There will be eligible the five continental champions.

In addition, the European vice-champion and Olympic champion, Germany, and the hosts, Spain, directly qualified.

The remaining five starters places were Qualifier 2006 awarded by the qualifying tournament Samsung World Cup, which took place in 2006 to 6th May from April 25 in Rome. Here, England, South Korea, Japan, USA and China qualified for the tournament.

Referee

For the World Cup 14 referees nominated by the FIH.

The groups were divided according to the rankings of the World Hockey Association FIH.
