Background
With David Coulthard, Giancarlo Fisichella, Felipe Massa and Kimi Raikkonen ( once each ) were four former winners of this Grand Prix.
The situation in the drivers' world championship was similar to that of the previous year. Again, the McLaren works driver Lewis Hamilton came as World Cup leader after São Paulo. 2007 lost the Briton's title in the last race of the Ferrari 's Kimi Raikkonen, who won the race, while Hamilton only seventh. 2008 came Hamilton (94 points) with a seven-point lead on Felipe Massa ( 87 points ) to Brazil. In a victory for the Ferrari drivers, Hamilton had to be at least fifth to win the title.
The Grand Prix was the last Formula 1 race of David Coulthard, who was in Formula 1 at the start since 1994.
Qualifying
Felipe Massa secured in qualifying with a time of 1:12,368 minutes, the sixth pole position of the season. It was his third pole in a row in Brazil. The second fastest time of the session went Jarno Trulli, who was the best starting position of the season for him. Third fastest was Kimi Raikkonen. Championship leader Lewis Hamilton secured the starting position four.
The race
The race was won by Felipe Massa, who imagined himself for 30 seconds as the new world champion. A few laps to put a heavy rain that forced almost all the drivers to the pits. Lewis Hamilton had to be the fifth to be world champion, was overtaken on the penultimate lap of Sebastian Vettel and relegated to sixth place.
