2012 European Women's Handball Championship

The 10th European Handball Championship of Women was held in Serbia from the 4th to December 16, 2012. The event was organized by the European Handball Federation (EHF ). Montenegro won the European Championship for the first time.

Candidate

The European Handball Federation decided at its meeting in Vienna in 2008 on the award of the European Championship. Candidate has along with the Netherlands, Serbia and Ukraine also Germany; the German Handball Federation was started in 2012 with a double bid for the European Women's and men's. The tender was awarded to the Netherlands.

On 3 June 2012, the Dutch Handball Association was back hosting the tournament without giving reasons. After 2003, this is the second time that the Dutch association returns a tournament host. Thus, the alignment was re-bid, in which Serbia was awarded the contract.

Qualification

The qualifying matches for the 2012 European Championship began in October 2011, 30 teams took part.

To the last two free places in qualifying played in June 2011, the teams of Finland and the UK ( 22:31, 20:27 ) and the teams of Israel and Greece ( 25:30, 27:23 ). In April 2011, in Leek, the 28 teams (Netherlands as an organizer and Norway as the defending champion had already qualified for the final round ) of four Lostöpfen in which they were classified according to their EHF ranking, dissolved in seven qualifying groups. The draw brought the next group allocation. The top two teams in each group qualified for the European Championship.

Preliminary round

Within the four preliminary round groups, the teams played each one game against all other group members. For the main round, the three best group of four preliminary groups, ie twelve teams qualified.

The group D played in Vršac.

Main Round

The twelve qualified teams were divided into two groups. The teams from groups A and B were playing in Group I, the teams from Groups C and D were in group II. Within these groups, the teams only played against the teams against which they were not yet introduced in the preliminaries. For the preliminary round, the points obtained were taken up to the that has been made against bottom-placed in the main round.

The two best teams in the main round groups qualified for the semi-finals. The third group played for the places 5 and 6
