2013 NWSL Supplemental Draft

The NWSL - Supplemental Draft for the 2013 season was conducted for the first time on February 7, 2013. Representatives of the eight participating in the premiere season of NWSL franchises were able to take as part of a conference call in six rounds players under contract.

The Supplemental Draft presented in the squad planning franchises, the fourth stage is, according to the so-called player allocation, the college draft in 2013 and a phase that could be committed in the players as so-called free agents.

Process

The eight participating franchises were brought into a solid draft order before the event. Each participant had to submit by February 1, a list of eight to ten players from which the draft pool was formed. These players were allowed to be both American and international players. However, each franchise allowed a maximum of two international players agree ( assigned during the player allocation internationals Canada and Mexico not included).

The franchises of Chicago Red Stars, Western New York Flash and Portland Thorns FC waived in the sixth and final round to draft their choice.

Follow

After the execution of the Supplemental Drafts each franchise could commit up to four previously unsigned players as so-called Discovery Player. Among them were such players are allowed, that were in the draft pool, but were ultimately not required. Start of the season on 13 April 2013, the individual Squad ultimately had to be large 18-20 players.
