(2983) Poltava

( 2983 ) Poltava is an asteroid of the outer main belt, which was discovered by Soviet astronomer Nikolai Chernykh on September 2, 1981 at the Crimean Observatory in Nautschnyj (IAU code 095).

Unconfirmed sightings of the asteroid it had previously been several: on September 25, 1933 (1933 SM) at the Observatoire Royal de Belgique in Uccle, on 20 March 1955 ( 1955 FM ) and September 1962 ( 1962 SF) at the Goethe Link Observatory in Indiana, on 17 July 1971 ( 1971 OD), November 18, 1972 ( 1972 VE), December 3, 1972 ( 1972 XK1 ) and 18 October 1977 ( 1977 UO1 ) at the Crimean Observatory in Nautschnyj and on 9 and 11 November 1977 ( 1977 VR2) at the observatory room forest in the canton of Bern.

The mean diameter of ( 2983 ) Poltava was determined with 30.86 (± 1.5 ) km. He has a dark surface with an albedo of 0.061. The rotation period was on 19 and 28 September, 2010 at the Osservatorio della Regione astronomico Aosta Valley in Nus -Saint- Barthelemy from the Italian astronomer Albino Carbognani with a 81-cm Ritchey -Chrétien Cassegrain telescope with 8.865 (± 0.003 measured ) hours.

The asteroid was named after Poltava on 18 September, 1986, a city in central Ukraine.
