50 metres

The 50- yard dash is a sprint discipline that is run mainly in the hall. It serves as an alternative to the 60 - yard dash and is now held only rarely as an independent competition. Many times are therefore measured on only one leg of a longer distance (usually 60 feet ). For children under 12 years of the 50 - yard dash is the regular sprint discipline. From the next age group, the sprint distance is then extended. 50 meters are run solely on a straight line, each runner must stay in his own journey from start to finish. Is started in the crouch start using starting blocks.

At the Track European Indoor Championships 50 -meter run from 1967-69 and in 1972 and 1981 instead of 60 meters was discharged. In these years, the 60 - meter hurdles competitions were reduced to 50 m.
