A family ( original title: En family, of English Festival Title: A Family ) is a Danish film from the year 2010.

Action

Ditte Rheinwald is the daughter of the bakery owner Rikard Rheinwald from Copenhagen. The bakery Rheinwald was originally founded by the German great-grandfather and each passed to the eldest son. It is a traditional company and royal purveyor. Rikard has with Ditte and Chrisser two adult daughters from his first marriage and, with Sanne still minor children and Line Vimmer. Rikard has just successfully survived a lung disease and now wants to marry Sanne. Ditte is a gallery and now has the possibility with her boyfriend Peter to New York to move to where they should be working as a specialist in European art for the gallery Amber as a buyer. Peter is a painter and found a studio in the Williamsburg neighborhood. For both, a life-long dream come true. As Ditte is pregnant, she is faced with the decision to give up the dream job or to become a mother. She decides against the child and drives off. However, when an inoperable brain tumor is diagnosed shortly thereafter with his father Rikard she says from the American gallery and would like to accompany his father to death and take over the bakery. This decision leads its partnership with Peter in the crisis that can not understand why an art historian wants to be a baker suddenly. She looks also confronted with his allegation that she gave up their child for the job and now wants to give to the Father for this job. Ditte is a loss and also recognizes that it is not suited to run a bakery. Finally, she says from the Father, but accompanied him, together with his wife Sanne in the family villa in death. When the father finally dies, Ditte and Peter get together again.

Background

Pernille Fischer Christensen and her co -author Kim Fupz Aakeson reported at the press conference for the premiere at the Berlinale in 2010 that the death of one's fathers was a trigger for the development of the script. Pernille Fischer Christensen's father died in 2001 and Aakesons father in 2004., The director was present with this film for the second time in competition at the Berlinale. For En Soap she had received the Silver Bear at the Berlinale 2006.

The child actor Gustav Fischer Kjærulff was seen in addition to his role in a family also still in competition at the Berlinale 2010 in Thomas Vinterberg's Submarino drama. Writer Kim Fupz Aakeson was also involved in two projects, the Berlinale 2010. He also wrote the screenplay for the Norwegian comedy A Somewhat Gentle Man by Hans Petter Moland.

The film was awarded at the Berlinale 2010 with the FIPRESCI Prize. 2012 was followed by 15 nominations for the Danish Film Award Robert, A family remained unprämiert. In the following Bodil Awards Lene Maria Christensen was honored as best actress.

After A family in Germany was seen from March 4, 2011 in theaters, the DVD is available from August 4, 2011.
