A Lot like Love

A Lot Like Love is a romantic comedy starring Ashton Kutcher ( Oliver ) and Amanda Peet (Emily ) from the year 2005.

The film is essentially from the over many years developing relationship of the two main characters, Oliver and Emily.

Action

Oliver, who lives with his parents and the dream has to build up his own company, meets at the airport in Los Angeles happen to Emily, who has just separated from her boyfriend and is quite desperate. Their eyes meet for a long time, but neither of them does anything. During the flight to New York Emily takes the initiative, and the two come closer in the aircraft toilet. After landing Oliver shows only interested in a closer acquaintance, Emily stirs him from ever again. The reasons are his, in their opinion, three errors:

But finally, Emily leaves for a drink with him. After a discussion about Oliver's future, they make a deal: In six years, Emily should contact him to see if he has a house, a wife and a successful career. Bet 50 dollars. Then they go through the streets and Emily takes pictures with Olivers camera until the film is full. Since Oliver is a little upset about it, Emily takes the full movie in and bought him a new one, before they separate again.

Emily reports, contrary to the agreement three years later at Oliver because her boyfriend broke up with her and she needs an escort for a New Year party on short notice. Oliver says yes and even helps her to make her ex-boyfriend jealous. After a boisterous night Emily wakes up alone in Oliver's apartment. This had professional reasons to San Francisco, did not want to wake her up and broke, therefore, on without saying goodbye. Emily remains only his camera, which he had left as a gift.

Two years later: Oliver's company is flourishing, and he lives with his wife in a nice house. But since the profession is more important to him than his wife, this leaves him. In a hasty action he travels to Los Angeles to Emily, who is now a photographer. They go out together and meet Emily's ex-boyfriend. In the arms of Gina, a friend of Emily. United in their heartache, both go out of the city, singing tender ballads with the radio and stun her heartbreak with alcohol. The trip ends in a National Park, where both are on the hood, talking and watching the stars. Emily has her camera case and persuades Oliver to together to pose nude for a photo before the night sky. Excited by this situation, the two end up in the back seat of the car.

Back in town, they take their leave of each other, and Oliver confesses to Emily that he still has residual feelings for his wife. Emily finds the right; they have also met someone.

The next day, Oliver flies to New York on business. There he gets surprisingly a call from Emily, who asks him to visit her mother's grave and lay down flowers there.

Another year later: Oliver's company went bankrupt, and in him is a growing desire to be back with Emily together. He travels to Los Angeles and Emily confesses his love playing guitar, but their wedding with another man is imminent. With a heavy heart he is on it and moves back to his parents.

Emily takes a few days before her wedding by chance the film again, she had vollgeknipst at their first meeting with Oliver. They developed him, noting that he had already photographed before they had come to him in the aircraft toilet. So he had yet taken the first step and even learned for them to play the guitar. She realizes that Oliver is right for them, after separating from her future husband.

She drives to Oliver's parents house after she found out by accident that there a wedding is celebrated. When she sees Oliver in the suit, it assumes it was his wedding, and want to be rushed out of the house. But he stops her, because it is just about the wedding of his sister. Thereupon Oliver and Emily kissing.

Reviews

Peter Travers compared the film in Rolling Stone on 21 April 2005 with the romantic comedy When Harry Met Sally and Serendipity, partly with the movies Before Sunrise and Before Sunset. He said the film would be even hard to bear for the fans of Amanda Peet and Ashton Kutcher.

" The cramped Romance keeps looking for unconventional ideas his protagonists to infantile banter at what makes the admittedly implausible story hardly interesting. "

Awards

Ashton Kutcher won in 2005 for the singing of the song I'll Be There for You ( originally by Bon Jovi ) Teen Choice Award. The film was nominated in three other categories for the award, including Amanda Peet as Best Comedy Actress.
