The Autoroute 13, short A13 which crosses the south of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, consists of two parts.

The southwestern, 20.631 km long section from the gyro Biff near the Luxembourg- Belgian border to the Croix de Bettemburg is called collectrice du Sud and passes through the former mining and ironworks area of Luxembourg, the Terres rouges. This part of the highway was put into operation in 1994 and is very busy.

In the cities and Differdange Esch / Alzette, the A13 has the function of a city bypass. Between Esch / Alzette and the triangle Foetz the A13 shares the roads with the Autoroute 4 ( Luxembourg City → Esch / Alzette ).

Behind the Triangle Foetz the A13 splits again from the A4.

From the roundabout Biff until separation of the A13 from the A4 at the triangle Foetz and in the opposite direction, a speed limit of 110 km per hour applies.

From the Croix de Bettembourg (change on the A3 possible ) to the Luxembourg- German border in Schengen / Perl ( 21.949 km ), the A13 is titled as a liaison avec la Sarre or Saarautobunn. This part of the A13 was not until 2004, that took ten years after the collectrice du Sud in operation.

The direct connection of collectrice du Sud on the motorway link with Saarland is still not fully established. The traffic is diverted through a bypass, which consists of only two individual lanes and parallel to the subsequent routing. Reason for this is that the Luxembourg government was not yet in possession of all the land in order to determine the highway to the planned route ready. A year long because of procedural defects delayed expropriation procedure could until 2013 to complete. The construction works are expected to begin in spring 2014 and take two years.

The routing is closely tied to the Luxembourg- French border demarcation. In Frisingen and Mondorf- les- Bains, the roads were covered. Before Markus Berg, shortly before the Schengen A13 runs through the 1575 m long tunnel Markus Berg.

After the tunnel, take the bridge over the Moselle between Schengen ( L) and Perl ( D ), where the A13 in the German Autobahn A 8 passes follows.

A curiosity of the highway is the feeder in Frisingen. The connection in the direction of Schengen is the distribution circuit Frisingen from not possible, although the feeder exists. Reason for this is that the connection was built without permission on a private estate in the construction work of the highway. So far, the Luxembourg State could not yet agree with the owner on a solution to.

Here the highway stunts of the film Autobahnraser with were prior to the opening to the public of the portion of Frisingen towards German border in 2004, inter alia, Alexandra Neldel turned in one of the lead roles.
