Abe Burrows

Abe Burrows ( Abram Solman Borowitz actually ) (* December 18, 1910, † 17 May 1985 in New York City ) was an American author, playwright and director.

Abe Burrows began in the late 1930s humorous and satirical texts for radio Varietyshows and comedy shows to write. He became known as the " head writer " of the radio sitcom Duffy 's Tavern. End of the 1940s he got his own radio show on CBS.

His career as a writer for the stage began in 1950 with the Frank Loesser musical Guys and Dolls. In 1951, he directed her first Jule Styne at the revue Two on the Aisle. It was followed by further work on Broadway including for the Cole Porter musical Can Can (1953) and Silk Stockings ( 1955). For the Frank Loesser musical How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying (1961 ), he was awarded the 1962 Tony Awards for the book and the director, and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. In 1968 his play Cactus Flower, for which he also directed the premiere. Burrows was active beyond as a screenwriter for film and television.
