The Zanzibar airport, officially Abeid Amani Karume International Airport, also called Kisauni Airport ( engl: Zanzibar Airport Iceland ), is the only airport on the main island Unguja in Zanzibar, Tanzania.

Generally

The earlier existing here Zanzibar International Airport was rehabilitated in 1994 (opened on April 1, 1995). It is located about eight kilometers south of the center of Stone Town and meets the quality standards of other African airports as the airport in Dar es Salaam.

The formerly state -run airport is now in private management. In 2013 there is a new terminal building under construction, which is scheduled to open in 2014.

Airlines and destinations

There are regular connections to mainland Tanzania, to Pemba as well as East African destinations, but also to Asia and Europe. In addition, there are charter airlines such as Belair and Condor flying to Zanzibar and thus provide an important feeder routes to Europe.
