Abra de Ilog, Occidental Mindoro

Abra de Ilog is a Philippine municipality in the province of Occidental Mindoro. The municipality is located on the Isla Verde Street, this is considered a hot spot of biodiversity of marine life in the Philippines and worldwide.

History

Abra de Ilog was formerly a small settlement that was founded in the early 17th century by Spanish missionaries.

In 1902 during the U.S. colonial rule Abra de Ilog officially became a separate municipality. First mayor ( municipal president ) was Rosaleo Miciano. With the passage of Republic Act. No 1280, a bill to reduce the number of municipalities in Occidental Mindoro from 15 to eight, Abra de Ilog was connected to the municipality Mamburao on January 4, 1905.

Five years later, in 1910 Abra de Ilog was again independently. On 13 June 1915 adopted by the Government under the U.S. Governor General of the Philippines Francis Burton Harrison of Republic Act No. 505, which includes the establishment of the (New Province of Occidental Mindoro ) "New Occidental Mindoro province." This new province was composed of the municipalities of Abra de Ilog, Looc, Lubang, Mamburao, Paluan, Sablayan, San Jose and Santa Cruz.

Today, it comes in the remote areas of the borough sometimes clashes between the Philippine army and the communist New People's Army.
