Adalberto Almeida y Merino

Adalberto Almeida y Merino ( born June 5, 1916 in Bachin in Chihuahua, State of Chihuahua, Mexico, † June 21, 2008 in Chihuahua ) was a Roman Catholic Archbishop of Chihuahua.

Life

Adalberto Almeida y Merino studied at the seminaries of Chihuahua, Durango, San Luis Potosi and Veracruz, and at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome philosophy, Catholic theology and canon law. He received in 1943 the ordination to the priesthood in the Church of the Gesù in Rome by Cardinal Vicar Luigi Traglia. From 1946 he was rector of the seminary in Chihuahua. He was appointed Chaplain of His Holiness.

In 1956 he was appointed by Pope Pius XII. appointed in the Mexican state of Hidalgo Bishop of Tulancingo. The episcopal ordination was donated to him on August 15, 1956. In 1969, Pope Paul VI. the appointment as Archbishop of Chihuahua. His resignation was accepted by Pope John Paul II in 1991.
