Adelans-et-le-Val-de-Bithaine

Adelans -et- le -Val -de- Bithaine is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Adelans -et- le -Val -de- Bithaine situated at an altitude of 317 m above sea level, 8 km west-northwest of Lure and about 20 km east-northeast of the town of Vesoul (air line). The village is located in the central part of the department, on the western edge of the plain of Lure, at the eastern foot of the height of Châtillon.

The area of ​​17.30 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the level of Lure. The eastern part of the municipality is occupied by the alluvial plain, which is on average 310 m. In the area of Adelans prevails agricultural use. The area is drained to Ognon by Picot and its tributary bourbier to the southeast across the Reigne. In the east, the area in the extensive Grove Bois des Communes Franches enough, the main street of Lure to Luxeuil -les- Bains marks the eastern border.

West of Adelans the terrain rises to the wooded heights of Châtillon ( 391 m ) in the north and Mont Jarrot (411 m) in the south. They form the watershed between the catchment areas of Ognon and Saône. Further to the west connects the valley of Colombine, which reaches a maximum width of one kilometer is on average 300 m. Neighboring communities of Adelans -et- le -Val -de- Bithaine are Dambenoît -lès -Colombe in the north, Antiquers in the east, Bouhans -lès -Lure, Amblans -et- Velotte and Genevreuille in the south and La Creuse, Châtenois, Châteney and Genevrey in the West.

History

Remains of Gallo- Roman wall foundations at Bithaine -et- le -Val evidence of an early settlement of the area. Adelans mentioned in writing since the age of Charlemagne in 815. In the 12th century it is occupied as the site of a church. In the Middle Ages the village belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The local government had held the Lords of Faucogney. In Bithaine monks of the Cistercian Order founded the monastery Bithaine whose property was greatly enlarged in the 13th century by the Lords of donations Faucogney.

Together with the Franche -Comté came Adelans and Bithaine with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. In the first half of the 19th century was in Bithaine a spinning mill. In 1993, the two previously independent municipalities Adelans and Bithaine -et- le -Val concluded (1990: 15 inhabitants) to double community together. Adelans belongs to the canton Lure North while Bithaine -et- le -Val was assigned to Canton Saulx. Even after the merger, the community cantonal border remained, so that Adelans -et- le -Val -de- Bithaine is one of the few French small communities belonging to two different cantons. Today Adelans -et- le -Val -de- Bithaine is a member of the 14 localities comprehensive community association Communauté de communes des Franches - Communes.

Attractions

The village church of Adelans was built in the 19th century in the Gothic Revival style and has statues and furnishings from the 18th century. In Bithaine are the remains of the former monastery of Notre- Dame-de- Bithaine (18th century), with the east wing, a dovecote and a water fountain. The facility is classified as a monument historique.

Population

With 311 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Adelans -et- le -Val -de- Bithaine one of the smaller towns in the Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1881 or 553 persons were on the ground counted church today ), was a total re- recorded a population growth since the mid- 1970s.

Economy and infrastructure

Adelans -et- le -Val -de- Bithaine was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village.
