The Adelegg is a to 1129 m above sea level. NHN high, 112 km ² and predominantly forested mountain landscape as the Northern foothills of the Alps, which lies within the Western Allgäu in the districts of Ravensburg, Upper Allgaeu.

Geography

Location

The Adelegg reaches the most northern foothills of the Allgäu Alps, located in the southeastern far in the northern Alpine foreland. It lies between the Lower Argen at Isny the southwest and west and Leutkirch in the northwest (both in the Baden-Württemberg district Ravensburg ) and Altusried in the northeast, Wiggensbach in the East, Book Mountain to the southeast and the Wengen Argen near Weitnau in the South ( all in the Bavarian district upper Allgäu).

Nature regions

Considered Geographically forms the mountain within the Alpine foothills in the natural area Voralpines hill and moorland ( number 03), the subunit Adelegg ( 023), the one depending in the High ( Southern ) Adelegg ( 023.0 ), among others, with the mountain range Adelegg in the southwest and in further part in the Northeast ( 023.1 ) and in the North ( 023.2 ) breaks down.

The term Adelegg but is usually only used for the lying in Württemberg mountain Adelegg, but to the ( same ) landscape of the Middle Mountains Adelegg includes the north-northeast of this mountain range located Hohentanner forest, the north-east located Kürnacher forest and the east lying Buchberger forest. South closes - no longer counting on this landscape - beyond the Wengen Argen the ridge to Sonneck.

Mountains

The highest peak of the mountain range Adelegg on württembergischem area is the black ridge whose summit a few meters northwest of the Bavarian border is and is the highest mountain in the administrative district of Tübingen. Waters and watershed

In adjoining the mountain Adelegg Buchberger forest, at the southeast edge of the Eschacher Weiher is located, springs the Eschach that to flow through without these ponds along the northeast edge of the mountain range in predominantly north-westerly direction extends and opens into the Aitrach, the water on the north extending Iller flows into the Danube. South past the Adelegg flows in an east-west direction, the Argen Wengen, the south-west the mountain range in southeast-northwest direction passing Lower Argen flows in which the water flows southwestward into Lake Constance, and thus into the Rhine. Thus, the Adelegg lies on the Rhine-Danube watershed.

Reserves

Small parts of the ridge Adelegg part of the multipart and 6.4 km ² Fauna- Flora-Habitat area Adelegg ( FFH-Nr. 8326-341 ). Large parts are in the conservation area Adelegg and related tertiary foreland hill ( LSG-Nr. 319 441 ), which is 68.14 km ² and was founded on 31 March 1994.

Economy and Tourism

The Adelegg is used for forestry and tourism in particular. In the modern era, but possibly as early as the late Middle Ages many glassworks were located here; yet to visit the glass factory is the former glassmaking village of Schmidsfelden.

For example, on the 320 km long Black Forest Swabian Alb -Allgäu - way and on the 185 km long Heuberg -Allgäu - way the Adelegg can be hiked. Especially in the countryside part Buchberger forest there are some winter sports.
