Headwaters of the Eschach

The Eschach is a 35 km long river in Allgäu, Bavaria and Baden- Württemberg, the combined flows on the boundary of the city Wuchzenhofen Leutkirch im Allgäu from the right and south with the slightly larger Wurzacher Oh for Aitrach.

Name

The first short section of the river the Eschach still bears the old name or Nibel Niebel, of which the original name of the area through which Nibelgau derived.

River

The Eschach arises as Niebel or Nibel in the Bavarian district Oberallgaeu about a kilometer west of the mountain book Eschach on the eastern edge of the Buchberger Forest, which adjoins the south-east to the Adelegg, a northern Alpine foothills. Level

Fish fauna

The Eschach belongs mostly to the grayling region. The Leitfisch is the grayling here. Moreover, even bullhead, chub, dace, brown trout and rainbow trout are found. Sporadic also white fish and pike found on the waters.

Flood protection

On the edge of Eschach especially south of the Leutkircher core city (today Insyer settlement ) occurred frequently floods. In the 1930s, because of the Fetzachmoos was created.
