AFC DWS

The Amsterdamsche Football Club DWS is a Dutch football club from Amsterdam.

History

The club was founded in 1907 as Fortuna, was soon afterwards Heracles and from 1909 DWS. Abbreviation stands ( strongly influenced by the strength of will ) for Door Wilskracht Sterk. In the 1934/35 season reached D.W.S. the first time the championship in the Eerste class ( group West II), but failed in the championship finals, among others, the victorious PSV Eindhoven. 1958 merged D.W.S. with BVC Amsterdam initially called DWS / A; the merger Association took over the space of BVC in the Eredivisie. In 1962 it was renamed the Amsterdamsche FC DWS ( AFCDWS ), briefly re- DWS. 's Biggest success was achieved in 1964 when the team was Dutch champion and then pushed forward in the European Cup of Champions to the quarter- finals. There, you had to admit defeat of Hungary Gyori ETO Vasas. The following season the A.F.C. could still reach the runner-up.

Since the Professional Division in 1972 with Blauw Wit Amsterdam BV Amsterdam to FC merged, which still joined the professional arm of De Volewijckers for 1973/74 season, playing the AFC only in the amateur field. In the season 2012/13 the Amstel townspeople competed in the eight-year vierde class.
