Agrana

The AGRANA Beteiligungs -AG (own spelling AGRANA Beteiligungs -AG) is an Austrian food company based in Vienna. AGRANA produces sugar, starch, so-called fruit preparations and fruit juice concentrates, as well as bioethanol. The products are mainly sold to the food processing industry, but in Endkonsumentengeschäft she is best known by the brand name " Wiener Zucker ".

History

AGRANA was founded in 1988 as the holding company for the Austrian sugar and starch industry. It operated initially three sugar factories ( Tulln, Leopold Village, Hohenau to 2006), a potato starch factory in Gmünd and a corn starch factory in Aschach.

The history of the individual production sites of the company but goes back further: That in Leopold village raw sugar was in the years 1901 and 1902 to generate founded in 1925 and converted to white sugar factory, the factory in Tulln was built in 1937. In 1974 the company received the National Award and since then must the Federal coat of arms used in commercial transactions.

After participating in the Hungarian sugar and starch factories in 1990 was 1991, the IPO on the Vienna Stock Exchange. It was followed by further investments in the Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia, Romania and Austria.

In the years 2003 to 2005 AGRANA has bought several companies in the sectors of fruit processing and juice concentrates ( Steirerobst, Vallosaft, Wink, Atys ) and thus established a new business. This was due to the decline in the sugar business ( through EU quota reductions ) as well as diversification.

Today AGRANA operates ten sugar and five starch plants in Central Europe, and worldwide 41 production sites in the business of fruit.

Sugar Tulln

Ges.m.b.H. The sugar Tulln ( ZFT ) is the research and development company AGRANA in the areas of strength, bioethanol and sugar. The ZFT is organized as an independent company in the AGRANA is a 100 - % subsidiary of AGRANA Beteiligungs -AG ( AB), located immediately adjacent to the sugar factory in Tulln and is an active member of the Technopole Tulln, a center of excellence for agricultural and environmental biotechnology.

The ZFT is the Innovation Center for Business starch, sugar and bioethanol for AGRANA. The research and development activities of the AGRANA Group are mainly concentrated here.
