Ahmad Alaadeen

Ahmad Alaadeen (* July 24, 1934; † August 15, 2010 in Kansas City ) was an American jazz saxophonist and music educator.

Life and work

Had Alaadeen at Leo H. Davis Teaching in Kansas City and already fourteen first appearances in his hometown. He then studied at the Kansas City Conservatory of Music, the Saint Mary's College of California, at Chicago's DePaul University and at the Juilliard School of Music. For a time he lived in New York City, Chicago, Denver, St. Louis and San Antonio. During his military service he played in the 4th U.S. Army Band as a jazz saxophonist and oboist in the Wind Ensemble of the band. His music career began in 1949; Since then he has played with artists from the jazz and blues, as Billie Holiday, Miles Davis, Jay McShann, Ella Fitzgerald, the Count Basie Orchestra and the Duke Ellington Orchestra, Eddie " Cleanhead " Vinson and with soul artists such as Gladys Knight, Smokey Robinson, The Temptations and Sam Cooke. In addition to his musical career, he spent many years in the training of musicians in his home town active. In the last years before his death Alaadeen worked in various areas as a musician, composer and music publisher. He also served since 1995 his own label ASR Records, in which his own recordings have been released.

Awards

The musician has been awarded many honors, such as in Kansas City with the Jazz Heritage Award, the Missouri Humanities Council 's, the Community Heritage Award and the Missouri Arts Award. Furthermore him the Missouri Arts Council and the Mid-America Arts Alliance honored with several awards for his company Alaadeen Enterprises, Inc.. Besides he was honored for his compositions with the Billboard Songwriting Competitions. In 2000 he was honored in the U.S. House of Representatives for his services to music education in his hometown.
