The Akizuki class, also known as 19DD - class is a class of four anti-submarine destroyers of the Japanese sea Self-Defense Forces ( JMSDF ).
General
The Akizuki class is an evolution of the previous Takanami class. They serve as the Aegis destroyer escort ( Kongō and Atago class) of the Self-Defense Forces and to protect against submarine attacks them.
The code name 19DD for the first unit of the class comes from the Japanese calendar, with 2007 (year of planning ) is the 19th year of the Heisei era.
