Al Kooper

Al Kooper ( born February 5, 1944 in Brooklyn, New York) is an American rock musician, guitarist, keyboardist, singer, songwriter and producer.

Kooper began his career in 1959 as a 14 -year-old guitarist for the band The Royal Teens who was known by the number three hit in the U.S. charts "Short Shorts". He was soon in demand as a session musician. With Bobby Brass and Irwin Lewine he wrote several hit songs, including "This Diamond Ring", which is a number 1 hit in 1965 for Gary Lewis & The Playboys.

In 1965, he worked as Mike Bloomfield with Bob Dylan "Highway 61 Revisited " on his album. In 1966 he was the musical director at work on Dylan's " Blonde on Blonde ". Even after that, he worked again for Dylan, both in the studio (he played the organ on Like A Rolling Stone ) as well as live performances. Throughout his career, Kooper played on many recordings and concerts with famous musicians and bands such as Jimi Hendrix, the Rolling Stones and The Who.

In 1966 Kooper, along with Danny Kalb (guitar ), Steve Katz ( guitar), Andy Kulberg (bass) and Roy Blumenfeld ( drums), the Blues Project. In 1967 he left the band to form Blood, Sweat & Tears and to lift the Jazz Rock from the baptism. However, he only stayed for the recording of the first album with the group, then it came to differences and Kooper went his way.

In 1968 Al Kooper with Stephen Stills and Mike Bloomfield, the successful album " Super Session " on. It was followed by the album "Live Adventures of Al Kooper And Mike Bloomfield " on the Carlos Santana had one of his first appearances. The other albums Koopers were less successful.

In 1974, he withdrew more and more from the active music business. He wrote his autobiography " Backstage Pass ". Kooper was also a successful producer - he produced, inter alia, The Tubes, Nils Lofgren and Lynyrd Skynyrd. In 1997, Kooper a teaching position at the Berklee School of Music in Boston.

In 2005 he published after almost 30 years back an album that, despite positive reviews not met with great success.
