Al-Musta'in (Cairo)

Al - Mustain bi- ' llah Abu al -Fadl al - Abbasi (Arabic المستعين بالله أبو الفضل العباسي, DMG al - Musta ʿ īn bi- ' llāh Abū al -Fadl al - ʿ Abbasi, * 1393, † 1414 ) was caliph of the Abbasid and Mamluk Sultan among in Egypt ( 1412 ).

Al - Mustain came the Abbasid dynasty and was used by the Mamluks as caliph in Cairo. As such, he was completely powerless. However, after his appointment, he won the support of legal scholars in opposition to the Sultan Faraj (1399-1412) important. The reason was the widespread desire in religious circles to unite in the hands of the Caliph, the spiritual and temporal power again.

When it came in 1412 to the fall of Faraj, al- Mustain agreed to assume the office of the Sultan at the insistence of lawyers. In September 1412, he was worshiped in Mecca in the well of Zamzam and then uttered the prayer for him every day. In fact, it should only occupy the throne as long as the power issue was not resolved under the Mamluks. After his elevation to the Sultan, he appointed al - Sheikh Mu'ayyad the supreme commander of the Mamluks and the Emir Nauruz viceroy in Syria. Al- Shaykh Mu'ayyad isolated al - Mustain but shortly after his appointment in the Citadel of Cairo and reached after six months in November 1412 his abdication. Al- Mustain after that still remained some months Caliph before he lost this office and was sent to exile to Alexandria. His fate is unknown.
