Alain Mabanckou

Alain Mabanckou ( born February 24, 1966 in Pointe- Noire, Republic of Congo) is an African writer who publishes in French.

Life and work

Alain Mabanckou spent his childhood and school years in his hometown. After high school he began studying law in Brazzaville. 1989 to 1993 he was able to study in Paris by a scholarship from business law. After the Diplôme d' études approfondies in law from the Université de Paris -Dauphine, he spent ten years as a legal adviser in the French group Suez - Lyonnaise des Eaux. He was a lecturer in Francophone literature at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor in 2002 and 2007 he was a professor at the University of California, Los Angeles ( UCLA). He now lives in Santa Monica, California.

In the 1990s he published in French publishing houses several collections of poetry and short stories. His debut novel, Bleu Blanc Rouge in 1998 awarded the Grand Prix littéraire de l' Afrique noire.
