Alamogordo, New Mexico
Alamogordo is located in the U.S. state of New Mexico, about 370 km south of Santa Fe and 430 km south of the Los Alamos laboratories. Approximately 100 km has been removed ignited on July 16, 1945 with the Trinity bomb, the first nuclear weapon.
At the time of the atomic bomb program, there were about 4000 people, this changed, however, as in the field an air force base in the U.S. Air Force - today's Holloman Air Force Base - was, in the are stationed among other soldiers of the German Luftwaffe. Today, living in the small town of more than 35,000 people.
Nowadays Alamogordo is a popular destination; White Sands National Monument and the Three Rivers Petroglyph National Recreation Area at the foot of the Sacramento Mountains are popular tourist magnets in the vicinity of the city. Through the Air Force Base there are to visit the International Space Hall of Fame.
At the time of the census of 2000, the city occupied 35,582 people. The population density was 710 persons per km ². There were 15,920 housing units at an average 317.7 per km ². The population consisted of 55.35 % White, 25.58 % African American, 1.05% Native American, 1.53% Asian and 0.17 % Pacific Islanders. 12.07 % reported other races, and 4.25 % from two or more races. 31.99 % of the population to be Hispanic or Latino of any race.
The residents of Alamo Gordos distributed to 13,704 households out of which 36.3 % were living in children under 18 years. 55.6 % married couples living together, 11.7 % had a female householder with no husband present, and 29.0% were non-families. 25.2% of households were made up of individuals and someone lived in 8.8 % of all households aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.57 and the average family size is 3.07.
The population was spread out with 28.7 % under the, 9.2 % 18 -24- year-old, 29.7 % 25 -44- year-old, 19.9% 45-64 year olds and 12.7 % under the age of 65 years or more. The average age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 97.6 males. In the over -18s accounted for 100 women 94.1 males.
The median household income was 30,928 dollars and the median family income reached the level of 35 673 U.S. dollars. The average income of men was 28,163 U.S. dollars, compared to 18,860 U.S. dollars for women. The per capita income in Albany reached 14,662 U.S. dollars. 16.5 % of the population and 13.2% of families had affected an income below the poverty line, including 23.9 % of minors and 11.8 % of those age 65 or over.
The New Mexico State University, where it maintains a branch office with about 2,000 students. In addition, Alamogordo has a German school with about 180 students.
