Alban Berg Quartet

The Alban Berg Quartet (sometimes abbreviated: ABQ, named after the composer Alban Berg ) was one of the world's leading string quartets.

Artistic work

Already on his first recordings, it was awarded the Grand Prix du Disque, in the course of time, the awards piled on more than 30 prestigious record awards. But the Beethoven cycle of the Alban Berg Quartet was over 1 million copies, even with Béla Bartók highest sales figures were achieved ( over 500,000 ). In the last 20 years of its existence, the quartet proceeded to publish almost exclusively live recordings of concerts (mainly from the Vienna Konzerthaus, but also from the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London, the Opera Comique in Paris and Carnegie Hall New York )

The quartet's repertoire includes almost all works of the classical and romantic string quartet literature as well as numerous works of the 20th century, including premieres of works by Erich Urbanner, Gottfried von Einem, novel dome -Ramati, Wolfgang Rihm, Alfred Schnittke and Luciano Berio. The Alban Berg Quartet played for decades through its own series at the Vienna Konzerthaus, for many years their own cycles in Zurich ( Opera House ), Paris ( Théâtre des Champs- Élysées ), London (Queen Elizabeth Hall ), Madrid ( Auditorio Nacional), Cologne ( Philharmonie ), Frankfurt ( Alte Oper ). The ABQ is an honorary member of the Vienna Konzerthaus Society and Associate Artist of the Royal Festival Hall in London.

The Alban Berg Quartet also maintained cooperation with soloists such as Alfred Brendel, Rudolf Buchbinder, Philippe Entremont, Per Arne Glorvigen, her somewhat, Boris Pergamenschikow, Maurizio Pollini, András Schiff, Heinrich Schiff and Christian Zacharias.

Resolution of the Quartet 2007/2008

In 2007, the quartet known to dissolve at the end of the concert season 2007/ 08. The farewell concert was originally supposed to take place after a series of worldwide concerts in July 2008 at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, but was followed by spontaneous or more invitations to Taiwan and China's new National Theater in Beijing, where the last concert of the farewell tour were given.
