Albarracín

Albarracin is located at 1171 m altitude small town in northern Spain with a population of 1093 (as of 1 January 2013). It is the capital of the comarca of the Sierra de Albarracin.

History

In the Andalusian period the Berber dynasty of Banu Racin ( Raciniden ), built in 1012, after the collapse of the Caliphate of Córdoba, a short-lived emirate Taifa of where the city was given its present name. The emirate was from 1012 to 1104, and then became part of the Kingdom of the Almoravids. The emirs of Albarracin were:

  • Hudayl Djalaf ' Izz al - Dawla, 1012-1045
  • Abu Marwan Abd al -Malik, 1045-1103
  • Yahya Husam ad - Dawla, 1103-1104

Attractions

The old town of Albarracin was classified in 1961 as Conjunto histórico - artístico.
