The Albuquerque International Sunport is the airport of Albuquerque, the largest city in the U.S. state of New Mexico.

History

In the 1930s, Albuquerque, was connected with the West Mesa Airport, which only a year earlier opened the Oxnard Field Airport replaced in 1929 the route network of the airline Transcontinental and Western Air. After the Works Progress Administration were approved for a new airport as part of the New Deal monies governor Clyde Tingley was able to perform the groundbreaking ceremony on 28 February 1937. 1939, the airport as Albuquerque Municipal Airport was opened with two start and runways and a terminal.

1940 has been set up at the airport, the Albuquerque Army Air Base (now Kirtland Air Force Base ). In conjunction with the Army Air Base in the grounds military test facilities such as ATLAS -I.

The current terminal was built in 1965 and expanded in the 1980s and 1996. The old terminal building is since 1988 in the National Register of Historic Places and is now used by the Transportation Security Administration.

Operation

In 2009, 5.9 million passengers were handled to destinations within the United States at the Albuquerque International Sunport. Largest provider was the Southwest Airlines case.
