Alcide Pavageau

Alcide "Slow Drag" Pavageau ( born March 7, 1888 in New Orleans, † January 19, 1969 ) was an American bass player of Traditional Jazz.

Pavageau started as a guitarist in 1905 and became known as a dancer for a dance, which earned him the nickname " Slow Drag". It was not until the late 1920s, he moved to bass. He played in New Orleans include the Buddy Petit, Herb Morand, Emil Barnes and Dixieland Revival in New York starting in 1943 with George Lewis and also briefly with Bunk Johnson in 1945 in New York. With Lewis, he continued to play after returning to New Orleans, went with him several times on a world tour by the end of the 1950s and took with him frequently. In the 1960s, he belonged to the Preservation Hall Orchestra and marched as the Grand Marshal in the parades.

His wife Sister Annie Pavageau was gospel pianist and singer, who also made recordings.

He recorded with George Lewis and Bunk Johnson; In 1965, he played a one album under his own name at Jazz Crusade.
