Alena Zavarzina

Alyona Igorevna Sawarsina (Russian Алёна Игоревна Заварзина, English transcription: Alena Igorevna Zavarzina; born May 27, 1989 in Novosibirsk, Soviet Union) is a Russian snowboarder. Her biggest success is the world champion title in 2011 in parallel giant slalom.

Biography

Sawarsina began her career in 2003 with the participation of Russian Championships and FIS races. Her debut in the Snowboard World Cup they had in the ski hall of Landgraaf, where she was ranked 31 on 13 October 2006. Otherwise, they came this winter continues in FIS races and in the European Cup for use. In the winter of 2007/ 08 she was in the European Cup four times on the podium, including three as the winner. At the Junior World Championships 2008 in Valmalenco, she won a bronze medal. Five more European Cup podium finishes, including a victory that followed in the winter of 2008 /09. There was also a silver medal at the 2009 Junior World Championships in Nagano.

The breakthrough to the world class managed Sawarsina in winter 2009/10. Their first ( and so far only ) World Cup races she won in Telluride on 17 December 2009. Five weeks later she succeeded in Stoneham second place. She qualified for the 2010 Winter Olympics, where she went on place 17. In winter 2010/11 two more second places resulted in the World Cup. At the end of the season they won something of a surprise gold medal in the parallel giant slalom, before the Austrians Claudia Riegler and Doris Guenther at the Snowboard World Cup 2011 in La Molina.

In the World Cup season 2011/12 Sawarsina not came about an eighth square. Since 2011 she is married to the snowboarder Vic Wild.
