Alexander von Monts

Alexander Graf von Monts de Mazin ( born August 9, 1832 in Berlin, † January 19, 1889 ) was a German naval officer, most recently Vice Admiral.

Life

Monts occurred on 29 November 1849 as a cadet second class in the Prussian Navy and was posted on November 27, 1856 Lieutenant Second Class. After he was promoted to lieutenant commander in 1864, he served three years as an aide to the then Supreme Command of the Navy. Since 1868 Monts Lieutenant Commander and was a member of the Department of Marine and Coastal Affairs.

During the Franco-German war 1870/71 he was charged with the overall management of the port lock and was then Chief of torpedo system and commander of the artillery training ship SMS Renown. Monts in 1874 was promoted to Captain.

Between 1875 and 1877 Monts took a trip around the world as commander of the SMS Vineta, and then commanded the armored frigate SMS Great Elector, than this went down in 1878. 1881 Monts was Rear Admiral and in 1883 he held the post of Chief of the Naval Station of the North Sea. On September 24, 1884, he was Vice- Admiral. Kaiser Wilhelm II appointed him in July 1888 commanding admiral to delegate the Chief of the Admiralty.

His final resting place, he found after reburial on the West Stahnsdorf.
