Alfredo Torres

Alfredo Torres ( born May 31, 1931 in La Experiencia, Jalisco ), also known by the nickname Pistache, is a former Mexican football player. The versatile full-back was used on all positions and often also played on the offensive. He is considered the greatest idol of all times his long association CF Atlas.

Biography

Association

He spent his youth at the Club Deportivo Imperio; a club of his neighborhood, from which a number of young talents emerged. How, for example, his childhood friend José " Jamaicón " Villegas, who in 1952 would become his mortal enemy in the game, however, because he had joined the Club Deportivo Guadalajara connected; the arch rival of Torres ' Club Atlas.

" El Pistache " Torres started his professional career in 1951 at the newly crowned champions of the Mexican League, atlas, which is located in the neighboring city of Guadalajara. But a few years after this greatest triumph of Club Atlas of the club in 1954 increased from the second division and Torres was sold ( without his consent ) to the Deportivo Toluca FC. He remained there but a short time because his mother, who allegedly much needed her son at home, insisted on his return. National

His debut in the Mexican national team celebrated Pistache Torres in the 4-0 win over Haiti on December 27, 1953, within the World Cup qualifiers in 1954, in which he and his next two matches against the USA (4-0 and 3-1 ) denied in January 1954, a 3-1 victory contributed two hits.

In the subsequent World Cup 1954, he played both games, but then completed no more international.

Coaches and scouts

Torres remained the club Atlas his life long connected. After nearly 20 years as a player, he worked as a coach, assistant coach, director of football school and most recently as a talent scout for the Red - Black. Today, the training ground of Atlatistas bears his name: Alfredo Campo " Pistache " Torres.

Twice he led the Rojinegros immediately after their descents in the second division back in the Primera División (1972 and 1979). Another climb to the upper house of football he succeeded in the 1982/83 season as manager of Unión de Curtidores.

Anecdotes

Usually Torres was always the last player of his team, who came onto the field. On the day of the inauguration of the Estadio Jalisco on 31 January 1960, the meeting between Atlas and San Lorenzo de Almagro (0:2), the teams were already on the sidelines and warmed themselves up as Torres said jokingly to his comrades: "Today I want to finally be the first.
