Algans

Algans is a commune with 212 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the Tarn department in the Midi-Pyrénées region. It belongs to the district Castres, in the canton of Cuq Toulza and municipal Pays de Cocagne Association.

Geography

Algans is located about 30 kilometers west of Toulouse and about 20 kilometers east of Castres in the northern Lauragais. Through the municipal area of ​​the Ruisseau d' Algans, a tributary of the Girou flows. A characteristic of the environment of Algans is the absence of any significant forest areas. Up to small tree-covered slopes of the hills predominate arable and pasture land.

To Algans include the districts

History

The community Algans was taken on November 22, 1829 from the merger of the villages Algans and Lastens by decree of King Charles X..

Population

With 212 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Algans one of the smaller communities in the Tarn department. After the population had been in the middle of the century .19 over 600 (1836 were still counted 630 inhabitants ), one recorded since a continuous slow decline in population. A slow growth since the 1980s has been recorded.

Economy, infrastructure

The traditionally important branch in Algans is agriculture ( dairy farming, cereal and fodder production, chicken liver production). In addition, there are small craft and service companies. Algans is located off of the nationally important transport lines. The southern neighboring municipality of Cadiz is located on the highway from Toulouse to Beziers. In eight kilometers north-eastern Saint -Paul- Cap-de- Joux in Agouttal consist train connections to Toulouse and Castres.
