Algirdas Paleckis

Algirdas Paleckis ( born May 20, 1971 in Bern, Switzerland ) is a Lithuanian politician, head of the Socialist Party Socialistinis liaudies Frontas, diplomat and journalist.

Life

Paleckis is the son of diplomats Justas Vincas Paleckis and grandson of politician sowjetlitauischen Justas Paleckis ( 1899-1980 ). After graduating from high school in the 27th Naujamiestis (now Jonas Basanavičius Middle School ), he studied from 1989 to 1994 Journalism at the University of Vilnius, 1994-1995 International Relations in Paris.

Since 1994 Paleckis worked in the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From 1997 to 2001 he was a member of a diplomat of the Lithuanian diplomatic mission to the EU in Brussels, where he was responsible for culture, media, education and science. He was Head of Unit for Western European countries at the Foreign Ministry in 2001. In 2003 he was Advisor to the Deputy Chairman of the Seimas. From 15 November 2004 to 14 April 2007 he was a member of the Lithuanian Seimas.

Since 2007 he is a member of the City Council deputy mayor of Vilnius and Vilnius. On 15 January 2008 he was expelled from the LSDP and had to resign from the office of deputy mayor. In the summer of 2008 Paleckis founded the party " Frontas " who participated unsuccessfully in elections to the Seimas in autumn 2008. From 28 January 2009, he was assistant to the director of " Vilniaus kapitalinė statyba " (100 percent of the shares owned by the city of Vilnius ). He now works for a PR agency. He is also head of the municipality in Antakalnis.

Paleckis is married and has two children.

Legal proceedings

2011 strained the Vilnius prosecutor in a criminal investigation against Palecki for his denial of the Soviet aggression against Lithuania. Palecki had claimed at the events of Bloody Sunday, Vilnius Lithuanian sniper and not members of the Russian OMON units had fired into the crowd. In January 2012, he was initially acquitted, but sentenced in July 2012 to a fine of 10,400 litas. The sentence was confirmed on January 22, 2013 in the last instance by the Supreme Court of Lithuania.
