Allan Kemakeza

Sir Allan Kemakeza KBE ( born 1951 ) was Prime Minister from 2001 to 2006 in the Solomon Islands. His People's Alliance Party won 20 of 49 seats in the parliamentary elections of 5 December 2001 and became the strongest party. He was elected by Parliament on 17 December 2001 with 29 of 50 votes, and sworn in on 19 December. After his party had lost votes on 5 April 2006 in the parliamentary elections, Kemakeza announced his resignation. As the successor to his deputy Snyder Rini was elected.

Before Kemakeza became Prime Minister, there was much turmoil in the Solomon Islands because of rivalry between the militias of the various islands, which reached its peak in June 2000, when a coup took place. There are problems today still, but Kemakezas Government members of the UN brought into the country, so that they help to solve the current problems. An Australian-led peace commission RAMSI (Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands ) is currently stationed in Honiara.
