Allenjoie

Allenjoie is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Allenjoie is located at 330 m above sea level, approximately eight kilometers east-northeast of the city of Montbéliard (air line). The village is located in the east of the basin of Montbéliard, in a depression on the northern edge of the valley of the Allan, opposite Fesches -le -Chatel, at the southern foot of the heights of the Grand Bois.

The area of ​​6.56 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the gently undulating countryside in the Burgundian Gate ( trouée de Belfort ). The southern part of the area occupied by the approximately one kilometer wide valley of Allan, which is on average 325 m. With a big bow of Allan flows through this flood plain, which is used predominantly agricultural, and thereby forms the eastern and southern boundary. In the valley there is also the waterways of the Rhine- Rhone Canal. From the valley floor, the municipality's area extends northward over a 30 m high slope down to the adjoining Kalkhochfläche (380 m). This is subdivided by several dry valleys: Combe de Bois, Combe Combe de Baume and Claude. The northern part of this plateau is the vast forest area of ​​the Grand Bois covered in the 417 meters, the highest point reached by Allenjoie.

Neighboring communities of Allenjoie are Dambenois and Bourogne in the north, Méziré in the east, Fesches -le- Châtel and Étupes in the south and Brognard in the West.

History

Several findings indicate that the municipality of Allenjoie was already inhabited in the Merovingian period. Since the Middle Ages Allenjoie belonged to the territory of the Counts of Montbéliard. With the annexation of that county, the village came in 1793 final in French hands. Today Allenjoie part of the community association Agglomà du Pays de Montbéliard.

Attractions

The village church of Allenjoie was built from 1859 to 1860. Also worth seeing is the village fountain ( Fontaine des Sirènes ) from the mid-19th century.

Population

With 758 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Allenjoie one of the small communities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased in the first half of the 20th century (1906 504 persons were still counted ) from 1960 to 1975, a striking population growth was recorded. Thereafter, a decrease of 12 % was registered until 1990 before again began a population increase.

Economy and infrastructure

Allenjoie was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village.
