Dambenois

Dambenois is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Dambenois is located on 335 m above sea level, about seven kilometers northeast of the town of Montbéliard (air line). The village is located in the northeast of the basin of Montbeliard, on the eastern edge of the broad valley of the Savoureuse, at the foot of the heights of the Bois du Fahy.

The area of ​​3.28 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the gently undulating countryside in the Burgundian Gate ( trouée de Belfort ). The western part of the area occupied by the approximately 1.5 km wide valley of Savoureuse, which is on average 325 m. The communal land is not enough to the river, but he has several lakes that were created by the filling of former sand and gravel pits and today serve as a water sports center and recreation area of Montbéliard and Belfort. West of the village runs the Canal de la Haute -Saône, which is connected with the Rhine - Rhone canal.

From the valley floor, the municipality's area extends eastward over a 30 m high slope on the adjacent hills, which are broken down by various depressions of the Seitentälchen Savoureuse. The area is mainly consisted of arable and meadow land. To the northeast of the municipality floor extends into the forest area of ​​the Bois du Fahy, in the 427 meters, the highest elevation of Dambenois is achieved.

Neighboring communities of Dambenois are Trévenans and Bourogne in the north, Allenjoie in the east, the south and Brognard Nommay in the West.

History

The place name derives from Benedictus Dominus ( Lord / Holy Benedict ). Since the Middle Ages Dambenois belonged to the territory of the Counts of Montbéliard. This gave the village rule mid 17th century, Baron Christophe de Forstner ( grave slab in the church). With the annexation of the county of Montbeliard the village came in 1793 final in French hands. Today Dambenois part of the community association Communauté d' Agglomà du Pays de Montbéliard.

Population

With 777 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Dambenois one of the small communities of the department of Doubs. Once the population has consistently had in the first half of the 20th century in the range between 100 and 150 people, a striking population growth was recorded since the early 1970s. Since then, the population has more than tripled.

Economy and infrastructure

Dambenois was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) embossed village. The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a secondary road that leads from Châtenois -les -Forges after Brognard. The nearest links to the A36 motorway, which runs through the municipality, is located at a distance of about three kilometers. Further road links exist with Nommay and Allenjoie.
