Badevel

Badevel is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Badevel lies on 353 meters, about eleven kilometers east of the town of Montbéliard (air line). The village is located in the northern foothills of the Jura formation in a wide basin at the Bach Feschotte, surrounded by the hills which slope gently to the north gate of Burgundian way.

The area of ​​3.73 square kilometers municipal area includes a portion of the northern French Jura. The main part of the area is taken from the basin of Badevel having a width of one kilometer and a length of two kilometers, and is an average of 350 meters. In the Creux de Malefosse south of the village rises the Feschotte that drains the basin north to Allan. The pelvis is the Pierres flanked by forest area of ​​the Grand Bois du Haut (up to 402 meters ) in the northeast and the forest heights of Grandmont in the south. To the west, passes through a nearly 100 meter high escarpment to the high surface area of ​​Beaucourt. Here the highest elevation of Badevel is achieved with 452 meters.

Neighboring communities of Badevel are Méziré and Grandvillars in the north, Fêche -l'Église in the east, Saint- Dizier- l'Évêque in the south and Beaucourt and Dampierre -les -Bois in the West.

History

The first mention of Badevel was in 1335 under the present name. Over time, the spelling on Jaunty - Badevel (1340 ) and Badevelle ( 1494) to Badevel (since 1676 ) changed. Since its first mention Badevel belonged to the rule Bélieu with which it passed in 1431 to the Counts of Montbéliard. This led in 1541 the Reformation. Upon incidence of the Guises ( 1587/88 ) was ransacked the village and set on fire. Already in the 16th century, the water power of the Feschotte for the operation of mills was used. In the 17th century began in Badevel with the mining of iron ore, which was processed in the iron works of Audi Court. With the annexation of the county of Montbeliard the village came in 1793 final in French hands.

The industrialization of Badevel began in the early 19th century, when Frédéric Japy founded here in 1810 in a former mill, the first watch factory. The Japy factory was long the most important employer in the village until the watch production moved to the factory of the neighboring Beaucourt after the crisis of the 1920s and 30s and the production facility in Badevel was closed in 1935. Today Badevel part of the community association Communauté d' Agglomà du Pays de Montbéliard.

Attractions

The Protestant Church (Temple luthérien ) of Badevel was built in 1857 and has a remarkable organ, which originally stood in the monastery church of Bellelay ( Switzerland ) and was purchased by Frédéric Japy 1798. Catholics is a chapel available. Also worth seeing is the Mausolée Jean -Charles Japy, the burial place of the Japy Dynasty.

Population

With 864 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Badevel one of the small communities of the department of Doubs. Already in 1875 the village had 1000 inhabitants. The previous high was recorded in 1896 at the time of the greatest prosperity of the Japy factory with more than 1200 people. This was followed up to 1936, a continuous decrease in the population by more than 40 %. Since then there have been several variations, but only recently a significant population increase has been registered.

Economy and infrastructure

Already at the beginning of the 19th century Badevel developed into a characteristically industrial community. Today, some companies in the small and medium industries, particularly in the industries precision engineering, metal and wood processing in the municipality of residence. There are also several shops of retail for your everyday needs. Many workers are also commuters who do their work in the other municipalities of the agglomeration Montbéliard.

The village has good transport links. It lies on the main road D463 which leads from Montbeliard to Delle. The nearest links to the A36 motorway is located at a distance of about ten kilometers.
