Älmhult

Älmhult (deprecated also Elmhult ) is an industrially defined small town in Sweden and capital of the municipality Älmhult. Älmhult located in the County of Kronoberg County in southern Sweden, Småland on the southern end of the lake Möckeln.

History

Älmhult grew by a once important railway junction. Here the railway lines Södra stambanan (Malmö - Nässjö - Falköping, part of today's route Malmö -Stockholm ), Sölvesborg - Olofströms - Elmhults Järnväg ( SOEJ ) met (after Blekinge, today only goods transport) and a now abandoned lines to Kristianstad.

Economy

Älmhult is one of the main locations of the furniture company Ikea. The location dominant company opened here in 1958 the first furniture store. In Älmhult have, among others, the Group's subsidiaries Ikea Trading AB, Ikea IT AB, Ikea Communications AB, Ikea of Sweden AB, Swedwood AB and AB module service their principal or branch office with administrative and production units as well as a distribution center. The Stena -metal group is represented with the head office of Stena Aluminium and a sales office and warehouse of Stena Stål in Älmhult.

On Älmhults central square, between the train station and local government is a statue of in Stenbrohult ( Råshult ) near Älmhult born famous botanist, Carl Linnaeus, which was created in 1946 by Carl Eldh.
