Alphonsus Augustus Sowada

Alphonsus Augustus Sowada OSC ( born June 23, 1933, Avon, Minnesota, USA, † January 11, 2014 ) was Bishop of Agats.

Life

Alphonsus Augustus Sowada joined the Congregation of the Order of the Holy Cross and received on 31 May 1958, the ordination.

Pope Paul VI. appointed him on 29 May 1969 the first bishop of Agats. The Apostolic Nuncio to Indonesia, Joseph Mees, donated to him on 23 November of the same year the episcopal ordination; Co-consecrators were Herman Tillemans MSC, Archbishop of Merauke, and Rudolf Joseph Manfred Staverman, OFM, Bishop of Djajapura.

On 9 May 2001, Pope John Paul II took his resignation for health reasons.
