Alphonsus Mathias
Alphonsus Mathias ( born June 22, 1928 in Pangala ) is Archbishop Emeritus of Bangalore and participants in the last two sessions of the Second Vatican Council.
Life
Alphonsus Mathias received on 24 August 1954, the ordination. Paul VI. appointed him on 16 November 1963, the first Bishop of Chikmagalur.
The Apostolic Internuncio in India James Robert Knox consecrated him on 5 February of the next year to the bishop; Co-consecrators were Albert Vincent D' Souza, Archbishop of Calcutta, and Raymond D' Mello, Bishop of Allahabad.
On September 12, 1986, he was appointed Archbishop of Bangalore. From his office he resigned on 24 March 1998.
