Geography

The city is situated on the west bank of the lower Saale, 51 km before its confluence with the Elbe. West of Großalsleben the terrain gradually rises and goes into the foothills of the Lower Harz. In the north, Magdeburg, a flat wave, agriculturally intensively used area begins. To the east and southeast of Großalsleben to hilly terrain includes left and right on the river Saale. History

Großalsleben was settled very early and served as a border fortress against the Sorbs.
