Amali dynasty

The Amali (lit.: the name origin is problematic, see RGA articles, p 246) were a Gothic dynasty, which held the kingship at the Ostrogoths and should have dominated the whole Gothic kingdom under Ermanarich in the 4th century ( cf. Ammianus Marcellinus, 31,3,1 ). Ermanarich is also the first historically documented Amali. The reconstruction of Jordanes ( Getica 79, probably based on Cassiodorus ) of an ancient tree, however, is not credible and very problematic ( ref: see Peter J. Heather ). The most famous of all was Amal Theodoric the Great, which 493 in Italy (but only a few decades inventory Wealthy ) Ostrogothic created. The line died out with the death of 536 Theodahad. In the Nibelungenlied, the Book of Heroes and other old German seals they are called Amelungen, ie descendants of Amala.
