Amelungsburg (Lippe Uplands)

Amelung castle in the Lippe Uplands

The Amelung Castle is a 292 meter high mountain in the Lipper Bergland in the community Dorentrup, Lippe district.

At the top of the mountain known as Amelung castle was probably an advance waiting to be located in the south- western promontory rampart beeping head. The used as a refuge rampart beeping head could be dated on the basis of fire finds to the time around 250 BC and thus belongs to the La Tène period. Visible traces of a castle or wait no longer exist on the Amelung castle.

At the foot of Amelung Castle, on the south-west side, a still well recognizable about 2m high wall section is 1.5 m deep trench. It is believed that this upstream Wall served to guard the path system.
